2017 Harley Davidson FLHTP Police Motorcycle
In 2017 The Auburn Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) started an Advanced Life Support (ALS) Motorcycle Unit. The program started with one 2017 Harley Davidson FLHTP Police Motorcycle known as MC-1. The motorcycles primary mission is to provide Emergency Medical Services support to the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) Regional Police Motor Unit. Department members assigned to the unit are specially trained for the job. Each Firefighter/ALS Technician is a certified Emergency Medical Technician. Each rider is then certified after completing an intense 80 hour Motor Unit Operator program. Each of the riders is then equipped with the specialized clothing and protective gear needed to perform their duties on an ALS motorcycle.
MC-1 is completely outfitted for response at the ALS level. The AFRD is currently the only department in MA operating a motorcycle for Emergency Medical Services. The primary responsibility of the operators assigned to MC-1 is to respond quickly to provide patient care and stabilization at the scene of an emergency.
